Charities work together to raise much needed funds
September 10, 2008
(Ottawa, ON)
With charities competing for the donor dollar, two Ottawa
charities have decided to join together for a joint fundraiser. The Huntington
Society and Christmas Exchange are holding the Caring & Sharing Charity
Auction September 25 at The Hellenic Banquet Centre, presented by District
Realty.
“This time of year there is a fundraising event almost
every day of the week”, say Marilyn Matheson, Executive Director,
Christmas Exchange. “It makes sense to combine our volunteer resources
to put on one big event rather than two smaller events”.
Christmas
Exchange, which has served Ottawa since 1915, provides food
assistance to those in need during the December holiday season.
“The
Huntington Society is working hard to get the word out in
Ottawa about the fight against Huntington disease”, say Ray Bailey,
President of the Ottawa chapter of the Huntington Society. “Since
many of our volunteers are also caregivers, we welcome the opportunity
to work with others to organize an event”.
The Honourary Chair for
the event is Max Keeping of CTV News, who with be joined
by auctioneers Carter, Sandra and the Boyle of 105.3 KISS FM. Over 100
auction items have already been received, including a spa day, theater
tickets, gift certificates to restaurants all over the city, and much
more. Tickets are $75 each or $600 for a table of 8 and can be purchased
by calling the Christmas Exchange office at (613) 226-6434 or online at
www.caringandsharing.ca.
