4th Annual Christmas in July raises $2,700 for Christmas
Exchange
July 8, 2009
(Ottawa, ON)
Hundreds of hungry commuters joined in the fun of celebrating
Christmas a little early this year at the 4th Annual Christmas in July
Breakfast BBQ held earlier this morning at the Fallowfield Transit Station.
Several
VIPs, including, Councillor Steve Desroches; Police Chief
Vern White and Santa himself were on hand to help serve breakfast
and collect donations for Christmas Exchange.
Thanks to the
generosity of all those in attendance, over $2,700 was raised
in support of the Christmas Exchange’s Food
Assistance Program. This money will be used to provide more
than 27 families with a festive meal this coming December
holiday season.
Christmas Exchange would like to thank Enbridge Gas Distribution
Inc., Mattamy Homes, EMC Nepean/ Barrhaven, ‘A’ Ottawa, Ross’ Your
Independent Grocer, Starbucks Coffee (Woodroffe/Strandherd),
OC Transpo, TD Canada Trust (Strandherd), Barrhaven Optometric
Centre, and Erb Transport Ltd for making Christmas in July a success again
this year.
Christmas Exchange provides food assistance to those in need
during the December holiday season. In 2008 the Exchange
provided direct food assistance to 25,180 people in 9, 278 families, including
11,278 children and 2,198 seniors. Due to recent economic hardships, the
Exchange expects the number of people needing assistance to increase significantly
in the upcoming holiday season, thus making your donations
that much more imperative to ensure all those in need receive a decent
meal around the holiday season.
